Ways to prevent cracking:
1. Mechanical crack prevention: tie ends with iron wire on the dried wood, use crack prevention rings, combined nail boards, etc., use mechanical methods to force the wood not to expand and shrink, which can also prevent the wood from cracking.
2. Improve the method of sawing in lumber: the wood is anisotropic. Under the same temperature and humidity changes, the largest wet expansion and shrinkage coefficient is the chord direction, followed by the radial direction, and the longitudinal change is the smallest, so When sawing down, produce more diameter cutting boards to reduce cracking. Especially the sheet with pulp core is prone to severe splitting when it is dried. This is caused by the difference in radial and chordal contraction near the pulp core. As it progresses dry, it can extend to the medulla and extend longitudinally. This kind of crack is difficult to prevent when it is dry. The best way is to avoid the production of sheets with pith cores ("heart-cutting") during lumber making.
3. Applying waterproof coating: Apply waterproof coating on the end and surface of the wood to slow down the evaporation intensity of the wood surface, which can reduce the moisture content gradient inside and outside the wood, and also reduce the cracking of the wood.
4. High temperature qualitative treatment: The method to reduce internal cracks in wood can be qualitatively treated at high temperature. The residual deformation of the surface of the wood that produces internal cracks can be eliminated by high temperature and high humidity treatment before the end of the drying process. During processing, the surface layer of the wood produces compressive residual deformation due to humidification and expansion, which is offset by the original tensile residual deformation. After the treatment, the excess water is evaporated and shrinks with the inner layer of wood, so there is no residual deformation in the wood. The crack is also eliminated.
5. Immersion treatment with waterproofing agent: A more effective method is to pressurized treatment with waterproofing agent, so that the waterproofing agent can penetrate deeply into the wood to achieve a long-lasting and good anti-cracking effect.
